ABOUT

Unknown + Other: Decolonizing Salem in the Classroom is a digitized collection of lesson plans, internalization protocols, and a space for peer collaboration and contribution that aims to re-center one of the grimmest moments in early American history through expanded narratives. While we cannot cover the trials in as much depth as we would desire due to time constraints, this site is home to several “grab-and-go” resources for teachers and students. It is a living project meant to begin the work of decolonizing Salem’s past by orienting students to cultural misconceptions, emphasizing historiography, and highlighting indigenous diversity in colonial spaces.

This site was created through the National Endowment for the Humanities Institute The Salem Witch Trials: Their World and Legacy.

We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
